Washington, D.C. — Today, Representatives Duncan Hunter and Tim Murphy (R-PA), introduced a bipartisan resolution with 100 original cosponsors, expressing gratitude to members of the U.S. Armed Forces for their service and sacrifice in Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn. The resolution is available here.
Representative Duncan Hunter, a Member of the House Armed Services Committee and veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, called the resolution “a well-deserved expression of appreciation for the enormous contribution and sacrifice of our military men and women over the course of the U.S. mission in Iraq.” Hunter, who served two combat tours in Iraq, continued, “Those who served in Iraq did so with courage and selflessness, and we can all agree on the fact that, through it all, our Marines, sailors, soldiers and airmen faithfully dedicated themselves to the Iraq mission. Their accomplishments are a testament to their outstanding character and commitment, their high-quality training and capability, and their willingness to risk their own lives to protect others. To these brave heroes, especially those who never made it home, we salute you.”
Representative Tim Murphy, coauthor of the resolution, added, "We come together as a nation to thank the 1.5 million men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces who displayed tremendous courage and sacrifice in carrying out their duties at a great personal cost. Their selfless commitment will never be forgotten.”
