Washington DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Duncan Hunter, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, voiced strong opposition to a resolution that would mandate the withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Afghanistan by the end of the year.

“The timing of this resolution could not be worse,” said Congressman Hunter. “In Afghanistan, our military is engaging a dangerous enemy, but continues making significant progress toward achieving victory. The measure considered today, better called the ‘Retreat and Abandonment’ resolution, sends the absolute wrong message to our military men and women, as well as our Afghan partners.
“Our time is much better served by focusing on what it will take to win in Afghanistan, the real message our military wants to hear. We won in Iraq, even after some called the war lost and urged premature withdrawal at every turn. We must not let the same distractions interfere with our efforts in Afghanistan.”
