I rise today to ask the Obama Administration and Democrats in Congress this question: where are the jobs? Cap and trade, or the National Energy Tax, was passed by Democrats last month. It's the equivalent of a $3000 annual tax on every American family. And it's estimated that over 2.3 million jobs will be lost, most of them in manufacturing. We remember manufacturing from the days of old right? When Americans actually made things. And as Americans, we looked for and tried to buy American made products. Well, Mr. Speaker, you can stop looking for those American made products, because this Congress has made it so that there won't be any more domestic made goods. Companies leave this country every day for China, South Korea and India because of punitive legislation like cap and trade. And then there's the health care gamble. The Democratic health care bill will impose a 5.4% surtax on 1.2 million small businesses. It will increase the federal deficit by $239 billion over 10 years. And, most importantly, it will kill up to 4.7 million jobs because of the burden it places on small business. How about real solutions for this economy, such as: 1) Immediate payroll tax relief for those who don't pay income taxes; 2) Reduce the corporate tax rate. America has the highest corporate tax system in the world. There's a reason Microsoft is based in Ireland and not the United States; 3) And abolish taxes on Capital Gains allowing companies to sell off assets and reinvest in their workforce and infrastructure. The way to prosperity is not slamming down burden after burden on the backs of the American working class, but less government and more Americanism. |
